Solid wall insulation in The Forest of Dean

A lot of the housing stock in the Forest of Dean & Wye Valley is constructed with solid walls (either stone or brick) and therefore it is not possible to install any cavity wall insulation and therefore it was very difficult to save heat loss through walls. With gas and electric prices seemingly immune to deflation in the recession, Forest Dampbusters have found that many of our customers are concerned about constantly rising energy prices and many now insulate their houses. After having insulated lofts, installed double glazing etc many were at loss at what to do with walls. Forest Dampbusters can now offer a solution to heat loss through walls with an award winning thermal insulating plaster which as well as reducing heat loss also prevents damp and condensation on internal walls.

Forest Dampbusters Insulating Plaster has unique insulating properties, which reduces the amount of heat lost through walls. It is one of the most effective ways to insulate your home/building today and is suitable for both interior and exterior use.

Forest Dampbusters Insulating Plaster will help save a considerable amount of money on those ever increasing energy bills by preventing that costly heat escaping from your home or building. Forest Dampbusters Insulating Plaster is up to 70% more energy-efficient than any ordinary plaster or render and reduces carbon emissions making it one of the most environmentally building products in use today.

Forest Dampbusters Insulating Plaster is manufactured by Walltransform and has British Board of Agrément Certificate Quality Assurance for both damp-proofing and thermal insulation. If you are having damp-proofing work done on your house then instead of replacing plaster with normal sand/cement renders you should consider using Walltransform insulating/damp-proofing plaster which has many benefits over normal renders.

Forest Dampbusters Insulating Plaster improves the thermal performance of a solid wall by adding a layer of insulation directly to the wall surface. The insulation is applied in the same way as an internal plaster or an external render and needs no additional skills to apply other than plastering / rendering ability and we are therefore happy to supply Forest Dampbusters Insulating Plaster to local builders in the Forest of Dean & Wye Valley (please phone 01594 837300 for details). The plaster is usually can be applied as an internal base plaster and coated with an internal multifinish plaster skim to provide a smooth internal plaster surface for painting. It can also be applied as a weather-resistant external render when special coatings are painted onto the plastered surface. The low product density (83% less than ordinary plaster) leads to greatly reduced application times and increased structural building strength. For workability it is similar to applying any lightweight plaster such as Carlite Bonding.

Solid walled properties are notoriously difficult to treat when it comes to improving thermal performance. Forest Dampbusters Insulating Plaster provides a simple solution which can be applied by any competent plasterer. The insulation will improve the u-value of a solid wall from 2.1W/m²K to 1.0W/m²K with an application of 40mm thickness. Extremely low product density means that even this thickness can be applied in one or two passes. Thinner applications will still provide significant energy savings for the home owner.

We have also designed a Combined Damp-proofing & Insulating System using Delta plaster-lath damp-proof membranes and Lafarge Thermacheck plasterboard which provides a totally damp free internal wall surface with a greatly improved thermal performance which reduces heat loss and also prevents mould growth and condensation dampness. With this system we can provide a 20 year guarantee against the recurrence of dampness on any of the treated walls.

Our Solid Wall Insulating System is also suitable for cavity walled properties. Cavity Wall Insulation is very popular with householders trying to reduce gas and electric bills as an uninsulated wall can lead to large heat losses through external walls. Unfortunately the installation of cavity wall insulation can lead to problems with dampness and timber decay. Some installers of cavity wall insulation do not always undertake proper checks and procedures with respect to other building elements and a common problem that Forest Dampbusters have come across is the insulating foam blocking off air bricks, this prevents proper sub-floor ventilation and this in turn can lead to fungal decay (wet or dry rot). In one recent case we found that the blocking off of air bricks by cavity wall insulating foam had lead to the onset of dry rot which caused severe damage to flooring, skirtings and wall plaster which meant that extensive works were required to eradicate the dry rot.
